Tianjin Eye Hospital Refractive Surgery Center, being one of the biggest LVC (laser vision correction) department which was established in 1994, is also one of the earliest authorized hospital (Beijing Tongren Hospital, Shanghai Eye and ENT hospital of Fudan University, Peking Union Medical College Hospital and Beijing Friendship Hospital) to perform LVC, such as PRK, LASIK surgery by the National Ministry of Health in China. Now it has become one of the most famous refractive center in China and have the first-class medical Team.

The refractive surgery center provides the most advanced surgerical procedures in the world, such as PRK, LASEK, Epi-LASIK, LASIK, SBK, FS-LASIK and SMILE, etc., and performs more than 5,000 cases one year, holding a leading position in China. Up to now, more than 100,000 cases have been successfully completed in this center. Tianjin Eye Hospital Refractive Surgery Center is the unique department to provide the SMILE surgery in Tianjin.

Prof. Wang Yan, one of the most famous surgeons and specialist in refractive surgery field, ( The vice chairman of the ophthalmology optometry group of Chinese Academy of Ophthalmology, the professor in Nankai University and Tianjin Medical University), act as an academic leader who has provided more than 200 lectures at national and international conference. Prof. Wang has accumulated abundant clinical experiences and skills through performing more than 50,000 various surgeries per decade. The first SMILE surgery case in China was successfully completed by Prof. Wang in Aug 18, 2011, also the pioneer in the world. The national ReLEx SMILE surgery Training Center was founded in our department. By far, more than 30 training courses have been held and more than 200 surgeons from 100 hospitals have been trained from all around China and from other countries. Professor Wang is appointed as an outstanding expert by the Chinese Medical Association and APAO, and she has won several scientific awards.

The center is equipped with the most advanced medical equipment such as various excimer laser system, femtosecond laser system, topographical system, and wavefront aberrometer system, etc. The center is able to provide customized procedures to meet various needs of individualized refractive correction.(2016.7)

As academic leaders, they are well accomplished in optometry and the wearing of contact lenses and healthcare. They enjoy reputation in Tianjin and even all over the country for their rich experience in the field of optometry.

The Center has 46 optometrists, of whom 41 have obtained senior or intermediate qualifications in the field, comprising 90% of the team of optometrists. They have comprehensive qualifications in ophthalmology and the optometric specialty. Of all the people working in the Center, 74% are holders of qualification certificates for practice.

The Center is actively dedicated to teaching and scientific research. At present, the Center has 4600㎡ of training and education base for optometry. It is a teaching hospital for Tianjin Medical University and Tianjin Vocational Institute.

In 2005, the Center founded Tianjin Varilux Optometry Vocational Training School,promoted the domestic optical education in primary and promotion.（2016.7）
